Eleven To Twelve Year Old Writing and Language

Although the precise nature of how writing and reading are related has yet to be established, it is generally agreed that both are thinking processes. If we accept that language and thinking are interdependent, then we can assume that they facilitate each other to promote learning. Flower and Hayes (1980) remind us that when we write, we review our knowledge, actively apply our understanding, analyse and synthesize what we mean, and constantly evaluate the text we are composing as we move back and forth to create meaning for ourselves and others.
