Childrens Outdoor and Play grounds - places to play

James Hymes said, "Since young children are constantly active they need two types of classrooms: simple space indoors, and more generous space outdoors".

Careful selection and utilization of this space is vital to the developing four and five year old.

Children need playgrounds that are accessible, large enough, interesting and safe. Some type of enclosing wall, screen or shrubbery creates secluded areas, and gives a feeling of security and intimacy.

A child's time spent watching clouds in the sky or the patterns of light and shadow through trees, or discovering some of the many objects to be found outdoors are experiences of wonder. They feed the eager curiosity of childhood, which is the basis for learning.
